‘The New Negroes with Baron Vaughn and Open Mike Eagle’ will debut on Comedy Central (with a BET simulcast) – Friday, April 19, 2019 @ 11pm EST.

The standup and music series showcases a collection of new and established comedians and musicians. Each episode features standup performances from three different comedians and an original music video ft. Open Mike Eagle and a guest recording artist (with some guest-actor appearances).

The 8-episode series’ includes comedian guest appearances from Hannibal Burress, Chris Redd, Lil Rel Howery, Sasheer Zamata, Dulce Sloan, Sam Jay, George Wallace and Donnell Rawlings. Musical guests include Method Man, Lizzo MF Doom, Danny Brown, Phonte, Sammus and more!

Vaughn and Eagle discuss the series’ inspiration, “Our series gets its title and its mission from Alain Locke’s book, ‘The New Negro’. The book was collection of essays, poetry, fiction and music from the emerging artists of the Harlem Renaissance. In other words, it was a place where black people shared their lives, their perspectives, their ideals. It was a place where black people could define themselves instead of being defined by others. Our show aspires to do the same with standup music and music videos. We’re paying homage to that original movement by inviting comedians and musicians to do what they do best; speak.”

Eagle, Vaughn, Rob Anderson, Lance Bangs, Mike Farah, Betsy Koch, Anne Harris and Kellyn Parker serve as the show’s executive producers.

The series can be viewed on the newly launched Comedy Central Standup YouTube channel, the CC App, CC.com, on-demand and download-to-own platforms.
