A Big Year For Comedy at the 50th NAACP Image Awards

This past weekend (March 30, 2019) The 50th NAACP Image Awards aired on TV One from Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, CA. The awards were hosted by Anthony Anderson; celebrating black excellence in film, television, music, literature and social justice figures.

This year, comedians and comedy series alike were highly recognized. ABC’s Black-ish took home the award for ‘Outstanding Comedy Series’; Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis-Ross won ‘Outstanding Actor/Actress In A Comedy Series’ (Black-ish); Marcus Scribner and Marsai Martin won ‘Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Comedy Series’ (Black-ish); ‘Outstanding Guest Performance In A Comedy Or Drama Series’ went to Kerry Washington; ‘The Daily Show With Trevor Noah’ landed the award for ‘Outstanding Writing In A Comedy Series’; Donald Glover won ‘Outstanding Directing In A Comedy Series’ for Atlanta (FX).

Bey and Jay took home the awards for ‘Entertainer of the Year’ and the ‘President’s Award’. Maxine Waters received the ‘NAACP Chairman’s Award’ for her public service. Tom Joyner took home the ‘NAACP Vanguard Award’.
