Last night, Dave Chappelle celebrated the exclusive launch of his two new Netflix comedy specials, Deep in the Heart of Texas and The Age of Spin, with a LIVE performance for an intimate crowd of celebs at Peppermint Club in West Hollywood. “The one-hour set was full of beer, tequila, cigarettes and plenty of riffs on the audience” (USA Today).

In the crowd, Chappelle acknowledged Kanye West, referring to the rappers’ bizarre meeting with Trump as, “The lie that will save America”. Chappelle addressed Kendall Jenner before commenting about the transgender community, warning that he does talk about Caitlyn Jenner in his Netflix special, but the jokes are “not malicious”. He was later seen shaking hands with Jenner(USA Today).

The highlight of the evening was when Stevie Wonder took center stage for an impromptu performance, singing Uptight (Everything’s Alright). In response, Tyler the Creator, sat jaw-dropped and star-struck, upon witnessing the icon in his element. Chappelle’s celebration continued with a VIP after-party; including guests Tobey Maguire, Don Cheadle and Aloe Blacc (USA Today).

Chappelle’s Netflix specials were announced to air at 12pm EST, but weren’t available on the platform until 3am EST, creating a lot of unrest on social media from eager fans who were anticipating the special’s prompt debut. However, the 2-hour delay in air time didn’t deter loyal fans from watching the set as early as possible; many of which waited until 3am to see the premiere.

Various sources affirm Chappelle didn’t disappoint. His brilliant comedy specials were a testament to his genius craft and career longevity; combining a sense of triumphant comeback with the refreshing re-emergence of new material.
