After almost a decade of waiting, the statue to honor the great Richard Pryor has been constructed in his hometown of Peoria, Il.
On Sunday May 3rd, a seven-and-a-half foot tall bronze statue of Richard Pryor was unveiled in Peoria. The statue was constructed to celebrate the town’s most famous former resident. A statue commemorating someone so special should be easy, but it was a struggle to get this statue built. After years of waiting and $130,000 raised, the day finally came. Most of the money was actually funded from the help of the comedians behind the Black And Brown Comedy Get Down tour. This nation wide comedy tour featuring Mike Epps, Eddie Griffin, Cedric the Entertainer, George Lopez and more began as an effort to help fun this special statue in honor of their comedy idol. Thanks to the generosity of these comedians, the commemorative statue is finally on display.
