2017 Emmy Comedy Awards

It was a noteworthy night for comedy at the 69th Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 17, 2017. This years’ sitcoms and talk shows faced off in a category of their own.

Lena Waithe (Master of None) and Donald Glover (Atlanta) made Emmy history. Waithe becomame the first black woman to win the Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series award. Donald Glover became the first black man to win Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series.

Veep won Outstanding Comedy Series, Last Week Tonight was awarded Outstanding Variety Talk Series, and SNL took home the Outstanding Variety Sketch Series award. Dave Chappelle (SNL) was also awarded Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series.
